my new bike commute is very cautious - [not hard edged urban like a fixed-gear.] SAfety can be good for the mental as well as physical. Take the path of least resistance . avoid the traffic and ye shall be re-wardered with a better state of mind . SIDEwalk is usually for wusses but its OK for a block or two . (east side of Harvard Ave) It gets me where I need to go and clear of the merging traffic. And also I take the meandering BLVD designed by the Olmsted brothers in more gentle era. Climb the hill all the way to the top for fun ^^^^
